Homemade saline nose spray

Reading my Toddler's Magazine, "Turtle," has given me today's post.

Dr. Cory says: (Who is Dr. Cory? Not sure, but she or he gives medical advice to 2-5 yr olds.)

For kids under 6 who should not be given cold medicines, Dr. Cory suggests using a saline nose spray or dropper to clear up congestion.

The doctor says if you want to make your own, mix 1/4 tsp salt with 1 c. water

My mother used to do this for me. Just be very careful with your measurements because if it is just a little off it BURNS!

I made my own sinus rinse mix using salt and baking soda so that it would not burn so bad. I agree about using the right measurements, though. Even with the baking soda it will hurt if I use too much.

A neighbor swears by this (the salt and baking soda version)for a cough caused by post nasal drip.
