Ashes Glass Cleaner

I am starting to save up my ashes and grease to make soap come spring - will see how it goes and post it when I do it.

In the meantime, you can wet a rag and dip it in your fireplace ashes and use it to clean glass windows. Spread ashes on window and let dry. Take a lint free cloth and wipe off dried ashes (a bit of elbow grease is required to get it all off) and you will now have a clean glass pane.

The pane on the left is original dirty, the middle is the ashes spread and dried on, the right is the cleaned glass.

I'm going to attempt it my first time this spring using the Foxfire books as a guide. Maybe you could come on over and stir the pot with me? :)

Here is another use for ashes. Lilies love ashes, it is like manure to them. Save theashes from your fireplace, firepit, wood stove or as we did from burning brush piles and put them on your lilies in spring or fall. They will love you for it.
